When to skip tooth brushing to prevent dental damage

Dental professionals advise that there are specific times when brushing your teeth might do more harm than good. It is suggested to avoid brushing immediately after consuming acidic foods or drinks as this can soften and subsequently wear down tooth enamel. Similarly, brushing teeth immediately after vomiting is not recommended because the stomach acid that coats the teeth can lead to further enamel erosion, as noted in a study published in the journal BioPsychoSocial Medicine. Additionally, if you experience any form of dental surgery or have wounds in your mouth, brushing the affected areas might harm sensitive tissues. By being mindful of these various situations, you can help protect your dental health.
