Preventing a first-time stroke with lifestyle changes
The American Stroke Association has released updated guidelines which not only aim to reduce the risk of a first-time stroke but also emphasize brain health, highlighting that the risks for dementia are essentially the same as those for stroke. The guidelines focus on lifestyle changes and risk management such as maintaining a healthy diet, regular physical activity, and effective management of blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels. By following these updated recommendations, individuals can take proactive steps to reduce their stroke risk and promote long-term cognitive health.
