A recent study published in the journal JAMA Network Open has found that for people over the age of 50 living alone, pet ownership was associated with slower rates of cognitive decline. Memory, attention, and problem-solving improved among those who had pets. This study highlights the role pets can play beyond companionship, suggesting they might also contribute to mental health benefits, especially for older adults.
