A recent study published in the journal Applied and Environmental Microbiology reveals that even sealed and supposedly sterile bottles of tattoo and permanent makeup ink can contain millions of harmful bacteria. This contamination can lead to severe human infections and injuries, particularly for individuals with extensive or multiple tattoos. Experts are advocating for stricter regulations within the tattoo and permanent makeup ink industry, emphasizing the need for mandatory testing and certification of inks before they are marketed to ensure safety.
