A recent study published in the journal JAMA Network Open has revealed that approximately 15 million Americans regularly take herbal supplements like turmeric, green tea, ashwagandha, black cohosh, garcinia cambogia, and red yeast rice, which have been previously shown to be potentially harmful to the liver. While the study did not prove a direct link to liver toxicity, it assessed how common these supplements are used. The researchers' concerns about these products include limited government regulation, lack of thorough medical screening, and often inaccurate labeling. The study highlights the need for more awareness and stronger regulations to protect public health from these potentially hepatotoxic botanicals.
