A Mayo Clinic study, recently featured on Good Morning America, shows promising results through the use of stem cells in spinal cord injury treatment. Five years post-therapy, the first patient demonstrates increased independence and speed in walking. Published in Nature Communications, the research indicates that the majority of patients experienced enhanced muscle strength and sensitivity. This indicates stem cells’ safety and efficacy as a potential treatment of spinal cord injury, which can mark a significant step forward in the field of neurosurgery and spinal cord injury treatment. Additional larger-scale research is underway and aims to further assess risks and benefits.
