A recent study published in the scientific journal JAMA Network Open suggests that playing football may be linked with an increased risk of developing Parkinson's disease. The study authors analyzed the health data of former professional football players and found a statistically significant relationship between the repeated head trauma commonly associated with football and the onset of neurological conditions, particularly Parkinson’s disease. While these findings raise serious concerns about the long-term safety of the sport, the researchers emphasize that further studies are necessary to confirm these findings and to understand the underlying causes.
