Covid shots may slightly elevate stroke risk in older adults, especially when combined with certain flu vaccines
A new study by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suggested that COVID-19 vaccinations may lead to a slight increase in stroke risk as a result of blood clots in the brains of adults who are age 85 and older, particularly when given alongside flu shots. The researchers have indicated that the overall risk appears to be very small and that getting vaccinated is still recommended for everyone. For those who have concerns and want to minimize the likelihood of interactions, an FDA official recommends waiting about two weeks between receiving the vaccines instead of getting them at the same time.
